Cable Coating
Intumescent Fire Protection for Electrical Cables
Cable Coating is a high-performance acrylic latex intumescent coating
designed to provide long-term fire protection for electrical cables and cable
trays. It offers excellent resistance to weathering and ageing while
remaining permanently flexible, allowing for cable movement and easy
cable removal without cracking or damage. The coating is QUV certified
and suitable for both interior and exterior applications.
Cable Coating helps prevent electrical short circuits from developing
into fires. In the event of a fault, it forms a protective intumescent char
at the exact point of the short circuit, helping to identify the fault
location. The char layer blocks oxygen, preventing fire from travelling along
or beneath the coating and stopping flame spread along the cable.
When exposed to flame or temperatures above 175°C, Cable Coating
expands to form a protective intumescent barrier. After a fire event, the
charred coating can be completely removed and the cables can be
recoated, eliminating the need for cable replacement as long as the cables
remain functional. The coating sacrifices itself to protect the cable,
significantly reducing repair costs and downtime.
Cable Coating adheres exceptionally well to cables and cable trays and
can be applied by brush or spray, including vertical and overhead
installations. For best results, cables should be clean, dry, and free from
oil, grease, and dirt. A two-coat application ensures complete and
effective coverage.
